Deceptive!!
Very few illustrated entries...not ideal for a French as a second language learner. I was disappointed by not only the poor quality of many images, but also the lack of pictures for many entries that could and should have been illustrated. :(
Extremely Useful While Traveling
I just returned from a trip to France. I used a bilingual French and English iPod dictionary and had the Larousse all-French dictionary (which is beautifully organized to include idioms, synonyms, points of possible confusion, and so on). But the Hachette Illustré, because it includes proper names, proved invaluable when touring museums, wondering where subway stops got their names, or trying to decide why a certain town might have a claim on a visitors attention. I am enthusiastic about both the Larouse and the Hachette dictionaries, and given the prices, there is a very good case for having them both. The pictures are generally irrelevant, and may be responsible for a slight sluggishness when the app is opened.
"illustre"... Not that much!
The whole point of this dictionary should be the illustrations. With that respect unfortunately, the contents is utterly deficient. Particularly if you intend to use this to learn french using illustrations, you are in for one big disappointment. That could be okay at the price point to others, if only the dictionary part was any good. Word definitions however are also the poorest and most succinct ever experienced in such electronic references! In other words, this is overpriced junk. Stay away and spare yourself 5 bucks. I am French and son of a French teacher, so you can trust my judgment on this one.
